With Channel 4 Media Trust are offering 16-25 year olds the chance to make a short film to celebrate Black History Month. This is a chance for young people to tell their stories about how black culture has been an inspiration to them.
Ten of the best ideas will be selected by a high profile panel to receive filmmaking training and mentoring, before the finished films get a TV premiere! The competition runs until Thursday 29 July.

Skyride
Register now to volunteer for the Leicester Skyride. Skyride is coming to Leicester this summer for the second year running. It takes place on Sunday 29th August 2010. The ride is a fantastic event and it gives thousands of cyclists the opportunity to enjoy traffic free streets for a day and have a cycling adventure in the city.

Leicester Riverside has a team of Rangers who carry out a whole range oftasks from cutting the grass or litter picking through to leading volunteerconservation tasks or putting on events for the public and schools etc. The Riverside team work in liaison with many other people in order to managethe river corridor through the City the GreenLife boat goes out mainlyduring the summer months to clean up the rivers. Below are the dates that the GreenLife Boat Project is running. We only havedates for July so far. The Boat will be leaving from ‘Castle Gardens’ at10am. Braunstone Sports Festival
3rd July 10.30-5pm on Braunstone Park Volunteers are needed to help at the Braunstone Sports Fest again this year. This is a great community event held every year on Braunstone Park, with interactive sports, competitions, sports displays, stands etc. More than 3000 people are expected to attend the festival this year so lots of support is needed. Volunteers will help with set up and tidy up, assist with registration and help to run the activities. (If you are interested please get back to us as soon as possible)Thank you

Part One: The Sky
“Sometimes life gets too confusing, so I try to keep moving,
Keep moving and stay away from the complexities of life…”
My ship drifted along the evening skyline, the rhythmic thrum of the twin turbines buried deep in her hull interrupted only by the occasional ratcheting as the mechanism slipped a gear, like an old bird coughing as it made its way home to die. I could feel the vibrations through the soles of my boots as I paced the exposed boards of the upper deck. My knowledge of the ageing equipment was limited, and it’d been long months since I’d been able to make proper repairs. Fingers crossed we’d make it to landfall before she fell apart completely.
